Here's this week's conundrum in my life.... From June 2010 to June 2011, I managed to lose weight (about 45 pounds). I did this using the doctor supervised use of a prescription diet pill (only part of the time), serious calorie counting--almost every day (thanks myfitnesspal.com) and exercise (starting out 6 days a week when losing, towards the last months about 3 times per week to maintain).
Now the problem: Over the last month or so, I am backsliding terribly. I am up almost 10 pounds in weight. I have can't seem to control what I eat. I don't have the drive or energy to work out. I definitely don't want to gain back all the weight, so I know I need to get back on track, but I don't know why I am having so much trouble getting back in to the swing of this again! I need to figure out what I want to do and how to get started...
Options:
Prescription Diet Pills. Upside--the diet pills really help a bunch--they cut my appetite allowing me to make good choices in the food I eat. They also give me great energy. Downside--the diet pills have some bad side effects (serious constipation--YUCK) and I have to go to the Dr and admit that I am backsliding. Would he would prescribe again? I have been off of them for about 3 months, so maybe.
Calorie Control. Upside--obviously the math equation works--eat less calories than you are burning and lose weight. Simple right? Downside--I wake up everyday, thinking I will do this, then something happens...some sort of snack appears that I don't manage to resist (I was actually good at saying no last year...but for the last month, yes is all I say!) or I get to the point of being really hungry, then make baaaadddd choices. To lose weight I need to stay around 1400 calories AND the other option has to come in to play...
Exercise. Upside--it's the other part of the math equation above. The more you burn, the more you lose--plus you can actually eat more! Plus you look better and feel better. Simple right? Downside--You have to MAKE the time to do it and you have to do it (Nike has the right idea--"Just do it"). I seem to come up with a bunch of reasons not to do it--tired, don't want to get up early, don't want to cut into "hubby time", it's too hot outside to walk or go horseback riding, gym membership expired & is too expensive to renew, wii might not be set up right to do workout.... None of these were problems last year, why are they now???
Right now, all I know is something has to change and I know I am the one who has to make it happen...
Hmmmmm..... What do you think?
